Pedal-Loom Tapestry made with Alpaca Wool, Silk, Merino Wool, Natural Dyes, and Metallic Thread, 2021

"In Teotitlán del Valle (place of the gods), the old say that incense is the most important thing, since it is to purify space and ask the Supreme Being for permission to be with their relatives who are no longer in this world. That is why in my work, the Zapotec ceramic vessel (object to place copal for incense), the fretwork figures it has represent: material life and spiritual life, when someone dies in the world and is reborn in the spiritual life. The Tree of Life represents the connection between heaven and earth, the branches symbolize the decisions and paths we take throughout our lives to become judged by the creator supreme being. The eyes represent: the visions of life and also represent stories and moments lived over time. The orange background color represents the emblematic flower cempasuchil of the day of the dead. The frets at the bottom have 9 blue squares, which are the 9 levels of Mictlan."
